Totens

Totens were a species of hexapods that existed 15 million years ago. The species is notable in history as it is the first recorded event of humans purposely causing the extinction of another sapient species. Not much is known about the species themselves outside of their political conflict with humans. Totens were an advanced and territorial species that didn’t want to ally with humanity; in fact, they actively rejected the empire and its vast territory. It began with land and resource disputes between the two parties, which led to the Totens attacking smaller colonies. These attacks were mostly successful, which led the Totems to attack and exploit lesser-developed species within humanity's empire. The species targeted have all been lost to time, but their exploitation did not go unnoticed as humanity’s leaders debated the species' punishment. It is unknown what made them choose genocide, whether it was a show of power for future generations or a snap of tolerance; either way, the decision was brutal. With commands given by General Anthony F Mandoser, and carried out by an unnamed commander, every planet the Totens inhabited was carpet bombed from orbit, followed by an engineered plague to wipe out any survivors. The remaining members were then searched for by heavily armored squads with the species lasting for only 2 months after the command was first given.

This is the highest quality photo of a Toten available. It depicts a celebrity of the species in the backstage of a human live show.
