Log 25, Sand Garglers. Most life in the sun strip are burrowers, many creatures’ possess advanced digging capabilities to build impressive tunnels and nests. One species, however, uses the hard labor of others to make its home. The sand garglers are long, serpentine, carnivores that wiggle beneath the dunes of the sun strip. The sand gargler looks for burrows it can take over, evicting residents by spewing hot sand and saliva at them. Sand garglers shovel sand in their mouth and store it in their neck sack, which inflates when storing sand; the saliva in the neck maintains the sand’s high temperature. A flap in the esophagus prevents sand from entering the rest of the body. When attacking, sand garglers will fold their elongated lips to fire a mix of hot sand and saliva at high speeds. This attack is very effective as most creatures stay away from a sand gargler if they have an inflated neck; the species uses this fear to their advantage. Pregnant females cannot eat sand but will keep their necks inflated to ward off danger; sand garlgers travel in groups of 3 or 4 to better stave off predators. If a predator approaches a group, then all sand garglers will inflate their necks, thus confusing the predator on which one has boiling sand ready to be spat out. Sand garglers also use their neck sacks to find mates, the one who can gargle more sand the longest gets the female. Despite their smaller size, they're quite brave. I’ve seen a group force a sermi out of its sleeping spot.
Those guys sound real annoying for the creatures here. Do ya think that’s how humans saw the Totens?
Well, given how we act now, I think they saw us as the evictors.
