Musalank

The Musalank are an intelligent species still in their bronze age and have been under the watch of ILO for 50,000 years now. The musalank evolved in one of the many mangroves scattered across their planet-wide archipelago. They walk on two large arms through muddy waters filled with roots, have two arms that split into four at the forearm, and two prehensile tails that can also be used to manipulate objects. The musalank only wear clothes to signify rank as their reproductive organ is on the tongue. The musalank also posses a keen sense of smell, being able to pick up bodies amongst the sulfur of the swamps. They use this sense of smell to navigate their ships, especially in shallower and dense waters. Midoneed society is quite barbaric with most being pirates. Using their powerful arms to surf shallow waters or paddle larger boats, the musalank travel in large groups across the archopeligo competing for resources and loot. Villages are built atop free-floating islands of mangroves; despite the constant warfare these towns receive the bloodshed fertilizes the roots and helps the mangrove ball to grow. The largest faction amongst this group is called the Swords of the Sea and has made many advancements in metalworking and tool crafting. It is predicted that this faction will collapse in 12 years causing the rest of the world to advance into a new age with the development of the gunpowder engine. At the moment the species is predicted to not become an interstellar society and will likely go extinct before a rocket is ever built.
