So, how long will you be doing this job?
I don’t know; it doesn’t get boring, but it also takes me away for a long time. If I ever settle down with a family, I might stop or at least take a long break until my kids would be grown up.
What do you see yourself doing besides this?
I haven't really thought about it. I enjoyed doing organ commissions when I was a kid, so I could get back into that field.
When was the last time you even did genomemancy?
I tinker a lot at home. I have a bunch of small projects I like to work on in my free time. What about you? Do you see yourself doing anything else in the future?
Actually, yeah. I don’t know what it would be, but I think my current job isn’t a good fit.
Really? You worked so hard at it that they forced you to take a break. What's making you reconsider?
I got into this line of work because I wanted to be like dad and follow in his footsteps, but looking back, dad’s been doing this forever. I imagined myself living for only 2,000 years, but dad’s been a general for much longer.
I wonder how long he’s held that position; the only time he’s not listed as a general is when it’s about earlier humans.
His name is also strange.
Yeah, and he gave that name to both of us.
It’s just outdated, that’s all. I mean, “Farquid”, that almost sounds like old English.
His last name is also unusual. “Mandoser”, that’s even older English, almost like an Earth name. Neither of us have grandparents we can ask about it.
What do you think he’d do if he had another job?
Couldn’t tell you. We probably know him better than anyone and only think of him for his work.
Maybe he was also forced into his job. As bad as the things he’s done are, it’s a really important position. He might have been compelled out of duty.
Maybe. Doesn’t mean I have to feel bad for him for forcing it on me.
You don’t seem to have a clear direction in life.
I don’t need one. I’m happy with what I’m doing now and will change if I stop being happy. It’s a privilege only humanity really has, so I’m enjoying it.
You’re not bothered by not having a purpose in life?
I had a purpose force onto me, so I’m not too upset about not having one right now.
