Log 34, Foliarma. The first cydroped has appeared on the wall, and it’s certainly a unique one. The Foliarma, as I’ve dubbed them, use a special method to get food. They are autotrophs and photosynthesize with the membranes on their arms. This isn’t the first cydroped species I’ve seen do this; it’s probably a trait a lineage developed long ago. The Foliarma are nocturnal creatures; at night, they roam looking for mates and perform intricate dances to attract partners. During the day, they dig small holes in the wall, leaving only their arms exposed to absorb sunlight. The wall is dotted with small holes in areas where these creatures live; during the day, it looks like tiny leaves sticking out of every crevice.

How do the cydropeds with exoskeletons move? The plating doesn’t seem to have gaps.

They have small organs filled with gases that bend and move the chitin. It’s more flexible around the joints; the structure is like a compliance mechanism.

Interesting, I remember building micro bots with a similar system.

Really? Tell me about them. How’d they turn out?

Oh, I ended up not using them. I had to change the locomotion method; I won’t go into it.

No, let me hear about it. I liked hearing you talk about your inventions.
