Log 22, Back Burners. I’ve managed to find another creature in the Sun Strip, a small species of cydroped that I call back burners. Like a couple of the cydropeds in the desert, back burners have a more hardened exterior and an ornate extension from the main body, in this species’ case it’s a scoop. The mouth of back burners is a scoop that they use to cook prey in the sun while acids secreted from the insides of the mouth break down prey and lubricate it preventing prey from escaping.

That’s pretty morbid.

That’s how nature usually is. The front legs are also scoops used to dig up buried prey that is then put into the scoop and cooked by the sun. The back legs allow for high jumps to avoid predators as well as rhythmic shuffles that mimic the vibrations of sand to anything below. Their patterning is also quite impressive with the species bosting numerous lines of colorful dots, I presume this is too impress potential mates.

That all you have for these guys?

Yeah, they’re pretty simple, just another carnivore on the food web. You got any input on them?

Mmmmm, they kinda look like Attackers.

Surprised you know what those are.

Yeah, I work with one.

Wait like one off world?

Yeah, he’s been off for like 7 years I think, he might even know your friend David.

Let’s hope he doesn’t.
