I’ve noticed that Chairming walks differently than you; should we check if she’s hurt?

She’s fine Droid. Ming’s used to low gravity and hasn’t properly walked in higher Gs.

Ah I see, is that normal for humans?

No, most humans can walk in any type of gravity; Ming isn’t the healthiest person.

Is it normal for humans to hit each other to end conversations?

No, it’s not normal; but it’s how most of our conversations end.

That’s troubling. You’re typically kind to others. Chairming hasn’t been particularly hostile to me. Why are you two so rude towards each other?

We just had a childhood of bickering and her resenting me. I try to tolerate her, but she purposely gets under my skin.

Why would she resent you? Your lives and interests seem completely different.

It was like that when we were kids as well. Our parents had goals for each of us and so kept us apart the best they could. Ming wanted the goal my father set for me; she built weapons in an attempt to impress him, but he never gave her the time. It’s sad because she’s a genius and has so much potential, at age 7 she made a mini blackhole stabilizer on her own.

That’s quite the feat, what did your father say about it?

He said it was impressive and went back to training me. She hates me because I’ll get the position she wants; every time I tell her I don’t want the position she gets angrier and calls me selfish for not wanting the job I was made for. Not like she wasn’t made for a position either; she has 60% of dad’s DNA and all of her genetics from mom are appearance related. It was obviously a curated implantation, likely by mom’s request.

I noticed that she called you a clone. I assume that was an insult since, from my limited knowledge, cloning is illegal unless one is granted government clearance.

It’s both. My dad wants someone to take his place, and what better replacement than himself. He’s at the top of every government and wrote the cloning laws so there wasn’t any worry about legal repercussions.

If he’s using you as a replacement then why make a younger clone?

I don’t know, he’s always got some grand plan in the making. I’m sure he’s got all kinds of contingencies and justifications for his actions at the ready.

If you’re not willing to be his replacement then surely he should go with Chairming, she seems more in line with his field of work.

I’ve told him that before, but he says that it would be too great of a risk. His original replacement didn’t go down well and so trains the one person he fully understands, himself. Ming knows that but still hates me for something I don’t even have control over.

I feel like her emotions stem from more than envy. Why would she push herself so much if she knows that she’ll never take your place.

Cause she’s stubborn and would rather defy reality itself than try to find her own path in life.

You make it seem like taking your spot is all she thinks about. Whenever we talk, she rarely mentions it.

That’s because she studies you and doesn’t talk to you. She’s a roboticist trying to impress the head of war, of course she’ll want to learn more about a talking deathbot.

She’s curious, there’s a bitterness to some of her words but also wonder and excitement. It reminds me of someone.

That laundry machine from the show Larine watches?

She reminds me of you
