Log 12, Sprectros. Coming to a large riverbank of the wetland we saw part of the riverbed sparkling from afar. Getting closer revealed that it was heard of large animals with shiny mirror-like shells. I’ve dubbed these animals the sprectros.
How do you come up with the names for all the animals we find?
Oh, you’re asking questions now too Droid?
Since Ming is still sleeping, I decided to take her place as the one being curious about your mannerisms.
Ming prods, she’s not actually curious. But to answer your question I name the creatures by either combining words from different languages or simply naming them after a notable feature.
There are more languages than English?
Yeah, but they don’t really matter since English is a hodgepodge of thousands of different languages. Each word has like 20 synonyms, you can say the exact same sentence in completely different ways and people will still understand you. Anyways moving back to the spectro, they use their large reflective shells to disorient predators and locate one another in a very similar fashion to the mirror heads. However, they don’t require a special symbiosis to cool down as they have access to water. During nighttime when the sun isn’t there to aid in their protection, sprectors will sleep in a circular formation, with the youngest at the center and the largest on the edges in hopes that their size and numbers will deter predators. Young sprector’s don’t have reflective shells and so will stay close to adults. As the sprectro ages the plates that make up their reflective shell will overlap and become jagged, resulting in a sharper but less reflective armor. While elders are slow, they will guard the group till death and always stay on the outer edges acting like sturdy walls against oncoming threats.
I’m worried about how long Ming has been resting for. Should we wake her up in case something is wrong?
Nah, let her rest. I have a feeling she was forcing herself to stay awake while at work, her neurons seemed scarred and fermented. Here set up a med drone over her and tell it to wash out her blood. I’ll start making my way back in case it requires a transfusion.
